This year our art curriculum is focusing more specifically on the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. I am very excited to be presenting art with this different approach in mind since the elements are the building blocks of art and the principles are how you use them! In the past we have approached learning art by country, culture, master artists and their works, literature, or time period. Taking things back to the basics and building upon art knowledge (throughout the year, year to year) from a design perspective, while incorporating all of those things along the way, seems like a refreshing and sensible approach.
In September, we started our year with a unit on line and pattern. October's unit focused on shape. Now that November has arrived, we will be beginning our unit on color! This is one of my personal favorites!
Below is a bulletin board outside of the art room that displays some examples of artists (past and present) who have used color in their artwork in all different ways! Stop outside the art room to check it out!
