Quick Update:
Art Critique:
The students have been doing an amazing job finishing up their first round of projects and completing their critiques! There have been some truly remarkable conversations in class about art, all the way from Kindergarten through sixth grade! The Kindergarteners, first graders, and second graders have been completing TAG reviews where we learned how to start art conversations. "T" stands for "Tell something you like." "A" stands for "Ask a question." "G" stands for "Give a positive suggestion." Third and fourth graders have been starting to have art conversations as well as beginning to think critically and write about art. Fifth and sixth graders have been thinking critically and analyzing art, creating art critique presentations that discuss the four categories of critique (describe, analyze, interpret, judge).
Projects that will be appearing on the website and coming home soon:

New Structure:
This year in art we have been implementing some new ideas! All of the students are divided into small groups. (There are four small groups in each class.) On a rotating schedule, each group will complete project sessions as well as "Studio Series" which are mini lessons that review the art history and concepts learned in class, and "Drawing Lab" which provides mini lessons on art elements (line, space/form, color, value, texture, space/perspective) and design principles (pattern, rhythm/movement, proportion/scale, balance, unity, emphasis). The students have been doing a terrific job with this new structure in class!!! I am impressed with the level of creativity and innovative thinking!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!!! ENJOY BREAK!!!!!!!! :-)
